Hotkey for changing orientation after hitting "g" to move

I was watching a blender guru video series where he mentioned this hot key sequence, but there were like 6 videos so I really don’t want to go through like an hour of video just to find the answer, and I can’t find it searching on the internet.

What he did was hit “g” to move an object, vertex, etc. and then he hit another key, which switched the orientation from global to local. I’m animating a human rig right now and i’m switching between global and local a lot, so if anybody knows the answer to this, you would be saving me a bunch of time.

thank you kindly

You press the letter of the axis you want to constrain to a second time to constrain it along the local version of it. For example to constrain it’s local z axis while moving it, you press g, then, z twice. Pressing it a third time will remove the constraint.
