House and dunes

Had some free time on my hands today, i made this:

Quick question:
How can i make the texture on the house that it doesn´t look so stretched?

C&C much appreciated!

heh - love the huge grass!

the walls look very thin on the building, do you need to extrude those round a bit?

im dont know much about texturing but have you got the mapping type set right? ( the option for flat, cube, tube or sphere ) also changing the options above that might help ( UV, object, glob, stick, … )

does the roof need subsurfing better or something?

Three things I noticed right away. Dunkfordyce comments on the hugh grass but I see normal sized grass with a fairly small structure, on solution would be to place something with a known size in the scene. Perhaps a bench outside the structure. Also because of the mushroom shape of the structure the first impression I got was a fairy’s house.

Item the second: The shadows are not right.

Item the last: There seems to be grass growing thru the wall of the structure.

Althiom the picker of nits.

The texture problem does seem to be a mapping issue. I would try a tube mapping to see if that streches out right. Make sure Orco corrdinates are set. If tube doesn’t look right maybe sphere?

Also I agree with althiom the grass needs to be out of the house. In fact I think that it really needs a door to sell the fact that its a house at all

Thx for the crits everybody, will update soon!

hmm why are the single blades of grass so much bigger than the house? it looks like the roof is a nut or something… maybe this is a house for something from Bug’s Life or maybe Antz…
looks good.

Update:

As you can see i updated pretty much everything: the dunes, the house even the grass a little.

Well, it ain´t no fairy house. But i haven´t decided yet what kinda house it is… i think it´s just a normal sized house, apart from the fact that it just has one room.

The shadows are not right.

Maybe you could be a little more specific, because i don´t see anything wrong with them.

There seems to be grass growing thru the wall of the structure.

Yep, i didn´t see that at first. Thx for that!

Well like i said, the house is in normal proportions. But there is actually grass this big. In fact the largest sort of grass can grow as tall as 2 meter!

looks good.

THX

I will attempt to explain.
The grass on the benchless side of the structure. The shadows form a N shape which is not aligned with the rest of the shadows.

Additionally there are three shadows on the benchless side of the picture that form a backward N.

The updates look good with one small prob. The shadow of the roof on the “door” doesn’t look correct.

Like they say ‘The devils in the details’ :stuck_out_tongue:
