Finally got around to doing some more sci-fi design (my fav)
This hoverbike could theoretically work, one fan in the front draws in air which is shot out four vectored thrust nozeles, and used to turn the blades of a verticle lift fan. For take off, the the nozzles rotat dowen to lift the bike straight up like a harrier) with the lift fan pushing, and then, they slowley rotate up to provide forward thrust as the main lift fan continues to the provide minimum lift to the rear of the craft. Rider dirves like a conventional motorcycle.
Very nice model. Put a half naked girl on that and you nearly have an expose 2 entry… Stahlberg has an Thread right now on cgtalk about a new version of his one-wheel-bike. Yours is quite good too! Just lacking the half naked lady!
You could use make human. You can clothe them by selecting their vertices, duplicating them, scaling outwards slightly with aly S, and then trimming the new ‘skin’ with the knife tool. I haven’t checked out the hover bike yet, but I will when I have a moment.
Great bike, but theoreticaly it could not work. Similar things have been attempted by other scientists, and it would not be possible with that size of fan. It would have to be alot bigger. And even then there are functioning problems.
well, not say8ng it oculd be built right now, and I know the test you epak of (avro car, etc, I am an aviation buff). The plane to look at is the X-35. If proves how one jet engine can provide downward thrust and drive a verticle fan for a verticle take off. Now the the x-35 weighs many tons. (Somewhere around 10 or 11). The proposed dryweight of this craft is onle about 300 lbs. With 200 pound rider and 100 lbs of gas, you would need to create an engine capable of producing 2000 lbs of thrust, so as to overcompensate the wieght of 600 lbs, and still have ample lift power left for driving the rear verticle fan and providing forward thrust. Seeing as many fan engines of that size can produce that much thrust, it would simnply be amatter of reducing weight i the engine until a suitable balance is found…

anYHOO, yeha, wokring on raytraced animation with rider, doesnt really mattyer whether it works or not, just fun to animate.
I am offended by all the Awsumeness in the video, I think it should be covered up with cheesy textures and bad model - I am going to report this to the mod cops if you don’t make it less awsume.
It’s a wonder ful Idea, flying bike and all, but putting an engine in front of that thing that creates 2,000 lbs of thrust would be unsafe. You’d vacuum up something or someone and that would ruin your fun real quick.
