Does anyone have an answer to mirroring ( or flipping ) 3d curves. I am modelling in symmetry at the moment and would love for my fur to be symmetrical as well. I read Wim’s thread where he had the same issue and posted it as a bug tracker. The tracker thread stated a patch was made to correct the mirroring problem. Does anyone know where I can get that patch or any other solution that I am missing. Don’t bother asking me to try re-centering and all that jazz unless you are sure it will work. Thanks.
Shft/Alt-D then Ctrl-M in Object mode. If you want to flip it around the cursor (at centerline) snap the cursor to a point on the centerline, change Pivot mode to Cursor, Shft/Alt-D, cancel with LMB, S >> X (or whatever axis) and -1.
Thanks for the tips Fligh but I already tried to duplicate and mirror the duplicated curve. I have tried flipping it around cursor at centerline as well as flipping it around median point and a few other combinations to no avail. I also tried to duplicate and size in a negative value on an axis but it doesn’t give the curve guide the right angle. Thanks for the help though!
Probably because the axii of the curve and the head mesh are rotated differently. You could try Ctrl-A on both. Another trick would be to snap the Object Center of the Curve to that of the head and then use the Ctrl-M method.
I am not sure I understand. What does the head mesh have to do with the curves? Is there a relationship I don’t know about between the curve guides and the particle mesh? I never parented them or anything. I read that once you move a curve past 2d the center gets all messed up because of a z-axis issue.
I thought your head mesh was the emitter. Substitute emitter for head in what I said above. There is no physical link (like parenting), just the symmetry; you want to duplicate it and mirror it symmetric relative to the Object Center of the emitter mesh, I assume.
Goto F7, Draw tab and turn on Axis for both the Curve and the Cube and you’ll see the Curve’s axis is way off. Ctrl-A will fix it, then both Ctrl-M and S-X- -1 work if you snap the Object Center of the Curve to the Cursor (which is sitting on the OC of the Cube in this file).
