How Can I Put 3D Animation Into Real Life Videos?

Hi.

I was wondering if its possible to use blender to put 3D animation or objects into a video of something in real life.

More specifically, is it possible to get a real life person to hold a 3D modeled sword and, maybe using motion tracking or something, make it so when they swing their hand the sword will swing with it?

I’ve seen this in numerous videos and I’m wondering if blender is actually the type of software for things like this.

Thanks to anyone who will help.

http://mango.blender.org/ Have you seen the recent Blender Institute film? It will answer all of your questions.

no, i guess ill check it out.

Ok then so it is possible but can you tell me how they do it?
As in how to insert the 3D animation into video footage?
or how the motion tracking is done?
because the site just says what softwares were used to do those tasks.
