i recently finished a blender export script and a java application that enables putting blender models on websites. at first i made it as an applet, that was embeded, but later i had to change it into application. now the problem is that users have to download it before they can see it. this made me think that most of the people are more or less afraid of downloading unknown stuff.
Well, I tend to trust people on this site a lot more than anywhere else on the net. You’ve been around for a few years, amassed a respectable post count, so there would be no reason for me not to trust you.
Besides, should any BA member make a post that contains a virus or malware, it would result in an instant banning.
The JVM doesn’t run in a sandbox by default on winders machines under a web browser?
One would think given the track record…
To answer your question, I just download and run any java browser app that seems interesting since I trust the firefox people enough that it isn’t going to root my box.
The real determinate on this newfangled interweb 2.0 thingy is how resource hungry the app is…if the cpu fan starts going full tilt and the laptop starts to cook the boys then I usually just click the back button and go about my life.
Wait, you mean the user has to download and run it as a seperate app outside of the web browser? No, I never do that…
