blender is missing modeling tools like bevel, round or inner extrusion or bridge but often they can be done by hand as well.
or scripted by pyhton in case they get it working in os x for me ;(
another way to create round edges is to use subdiv surface.
if you build you object each point that is close to the next one will create a smaller edge three points will even create a hard edge.
hope that helps.

before posting stupid questions, you should read this: https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=689
blender’s opensource, dont whine, code the stuff your missing yourself. and the excuse that your not a programmer is lame. if you really want it, then youll learn it.
blendermax YOU DON’T NEED TO INSULT YOUR OWN lack of intellegence every time you post.
but using insults you really do make people lose faith in you!!!
you really need a new attitude

I would extrude the sides (one at a time) by zero, then hide them (before extruding the next face), deselect all (none should be selected in the first place), (you should have only the edges visible now, no faces) then show things, and hide unselected (shift+h), deselect all, and scale each side down individually while holding the control key (so that they may all be scaled down the same), and hide each face, repeat until no more faces are visible, unhide all, exit editmode (finally) and turn on subsurfs. this will create more rounded corners than edges, which is an interesting effect, but maybe not what you had in mind. Work will need to be done on the corners if you wish them to be more pointy.
I agree, but it could too easily be intrepred as offensive
I think this isn’t focused enough on this forum (but it is intended for artists), but if somebody doesn’t like something they could at least post some constructive way of doing what they suggest than complaining about blender not having featureX (‘cuz programY has featureX, but I wanna use blender cauze itz frEE!..’)
but now I am complaining. there was a good thread on slashdot about working with opensource developers, I suggest a look at it (what is moderated well of it).
goddamn blendermax, you are making it hard for me to keep my mouth shut.
why don’t you take the time to read who’s who.
I think your hormones are still blurring your vision, eventhough you yourself have a different opinion on that.
makes me think of the time when I was fighting puberty…
BlenderMax, I fail to see how clownfunk’s question was stupid. It was perfectly valid. I do agree that one should search the forums first, but not everyone knows about forum edicate such as that. Not to mention that people (including myself) often have lapses of absent-mindedness, even if they do know common forum edicate.
So try to be more friendly. For instance, you could have said “Here’s a link to a thread that discussed this same thing. And next time, please search the forums before posting so as to avoid redundant posts. Thanks!”
Blendermax, do you honestly believe that “I’m not a programmer” is a lame excuse? If so, then you have a lot to learn. As one of the major contributers to the tuhopuu tree, I can say with some weight that not everyone is cut out to be a programmer, nor does everyone want to be a programmer–and neither of those things make their input, requests, or feedback any less valid.
Saying, “If you want the feature, you should program it yourself,” is complete BS. Granted, people shouldn’t nag the developers for a feature, but saying what features they think should be in a program is perfectly valid feedback.
Another point I’d like to make is that even if someone is a programmer, they don’t necessarily have the time to work on implimenting a feature. For instance, there are many features that I, myself, would like to have in Blender, but right now I don’t have the time to work on them because of school, work, friends, family, and working on the material plugin system. Does that mean that I shouldn’t be allowed to make feature requests? I should hope not. Other people are in the same type of situation, except they aren’t already working on a Blender feature (their time is taken up by other things).
As far as I am concerned, the people who have the skills and the time necessary to work on Blender should do so, and the people who don’t should give feedback, ideas, and opinions. Feedback is a good thing, not a bad thing, and it should not be discouraged.
hey blendermax
just few points at first i never said that blender sucks, because when it would i would not TEACH it my students as well.
second i was just pointing out that blender misses some features but for this features a walkaround could be useing some combination of tools.
third iwas tellinghim about subdiv surfaces for round edges and flat sides.
so i would recomend next time bevor you blame me for something even nobody see here this one: first read ,think and than speak.

Personally,
if I have to bevel such an easy shape as a cube I’d behave like this:
1 Place the cursor at a grid point
2 Add a UV sphere with an even number of subdivs
3 scale it down the size your bevel should have
4 delete 7/8 of the sphere. I mean, delete the lower haf in frotn view, then in top view delete all but the lower rigth quarter of the sphere.
If you have made things correctly the three ‘sides’ of this 1/8th of a sphere will be on grid lines.
5 top view, select top verices line, extrude and with CTRL pressed move the extrusion one grid unit up.
6 deselect, select left vertices line, extrude, again with CTRL to move them 1 unit left
7 Go to front view and xtrude bottom line 1 unit down.
Now you have 1/8 of a beveled cube.
8 - Create the other 7/8 the way you prefear (Duplicate and rotate? Duplicate and mirror (better) etc.
9 - Eliminate doubles
Voilà
For more complex shapes is not this easy.
