How do I create a video file from a rendered animation

I’ve created a rendered animation but I don’t know how to create a video file that has the animation.

Anytime you render “an animation,” you specify the (or, as the case may be, you accept some default…) file output format that will be used to store the finished animation. Several of the available formats are “video files.”

Now, having said that… here is what I do.

When I render an animation, I always select a format that generates the data as a directory full of individual files. There is one file per video frame. Therefore, if the render happens to crash somewhere along the way, I can resume rendering without starting over from scratch. (If you’re rendering a three hour animation, the crash will always happen at “two hours, fifty-nine minutes and fifty-nine seconds.”)

When I am ready to produce a deliverable, such as a “.MOV” file or what-have-you, I create a new blend-file which uses (say…) the Sequence Editor to capture a range of these previously rendered frames, generating a single output file from that.

What I don’t do… is to do the renders directly into a “video file” format.

Do you already have a folder of separate rendered frames? You should be more descriptive if you want help. And if do have a folder of separate rendered frames you can easily use Blender’s sequence editor to convert it into a movie format.

Sorry, I’m new to the forum and new to Blender. Yes…I’ve got a folder of separate rendered frames. There are 600 .jpeg files that I now want to create into a video file. I also have a .wav sound file that I’d like to incorporate into the video if Blender will let me do that. I’m not familiar with the Sequence Editor so I don’t know where to go from here.

My problem is that I’ve never used Blender before so I don’t know how to use sequence editor to make a movie. I’ve tried creating 600 individual jpg files which I have in a folder. I’ve also got an .avi file that I created but when I open it, nothing happens.

I will see if I can get a quick tutorial finished to show you how.

I’ve created a .dvd file in the Bender Render Animation function. Now I don’t know what to do with this file in order to use it for a movie.

Hello, sorry for taking so long. Here is a quick explanation on how to make an image sequence into a movie file. I am not sure what a .dvd file is used for so I can not help you there. I used 2.56 when writing this.

  1. I would open a fresh blender file just to keep it simple.
  2. Using the “Choose Screen lay-out” at the top of the screen goto the “Video Editing” layout.

  3. In the sequencer window’s menu bar choose “Add >> Image”. This will let you load a image sequence.
  4. When the load window appears, navigate to your image sequence and select them all. Adjust the settings in the bottom left corner of the window and then press “Add Image Strip”.
  5. Back in the sequencer window’s menu bar, choose “Strip >> Set Render Size”. This sets the render size to the same size of the images in the strip that is selected.
  6. Set the “End” frame number in the timeline that is right below the sequencer window to the correct value.
  7. In the render settings choose your movie output format and render your animation. The sequencer is enabled by default.

Well sorry it was such a brief explanation. I hope it helps you somewhat.
Have a good day,
