How do i delete materials?

i appended multiple objects then it made multiple materials per object even thogh they were the same materials. i just want to delete the extras. they kinda clog the menu.

the only way i know is to save after the material change then open the file reopen last and the ones not used are gone.

its very bad…sometimes my material count goes high with some materials that are not even applied to a single object :x .isn’t there any option to delete the material permanently?same is with textures too.

Although it works for materials i can’t figure out how to get rid of unused textures its just annoying more then anything else
