how do i disconnect a child from its parent?

supposing i wrongly set an object as the parent of another object, how do i disconnect them?

easiest way…divorce…the child goes with the other parent.it will not work in blender though.select the child and press ALT+P.

Try selecting the objects.
press space.
object–>clear parent
