Downloaded early this week Blender 2.41 and have been following the tutorial in the Blender 3D: Noob to Pro/Printable Version “Die Another Way (dice modeling)”
Have redone this particular tutorial several times and the work is the 6th incarnation. In it have found that there are ways to quickly and accurately place the Look Cut KKEY but will get to that later.
Interspersed are some screen shots of the results to date on this 6th run through. Thanks in advance for your help.
Everything went well through step 4. The recommended bevel is 0.15. It took a while to figure out how this was controlled but found that when both the Button for Edit is selected in the Button Window AND the Edit Mode is selected in the 3D Window then I move the mouse without pressing any buttons on the mouse and the bevel with a readout in the lower left hand corner of the screen. If I hold on the SHIFT KEY at the same time the increments are very exact and small. If I hold on the CONTROL KEY at the same time the increments jump in lots of 1000.
At first step 5 using the KKEY was difficult at first and frankly did not have much success getting exact proportions called for of 0.17 and 0.34. Then discovered that if I turned on the Mesh Tools 1 Edge Length then placed the Loop Cut it could be moved into the approximate position and if I then held down on the SHIFT KEY and it brought it into exact position. IF this doesn’t work I then move it to the next decimal increment such as 0.24 or 0.44 then hold down the CONTROL KEY and the Loop Cut will full increments of 0.10.
Then rotated the cube on the Y, Z Axis and repeated which gave me a complete cube with all measurements exact as specified in the tutorial and allowed me to skip steps 6 through 10 since the cube is a cohesive whole that does not now have to be reassembled.
In step 11 start working on the it calls for selecting the individual areas where the “eyes” will be placed.
Got through subdividing them and sinking them do a depth of 0.17 but the results have consistently come out as shown in the following screen shots. These show the various views as well as the rendered view with the flat eyes that are barely indented even though the frame is there for more.
Any suggestions on how to fix this or do the step differently so I get a proper “eye” on the Dice?
Thanks again for your input and help
