I’m trying to find out a way to to gradually slow down all (many) animations at a certain point in the movie, pause them, play another animation on top of them, then continue all animations where they stopped, and gradually speed them up again.
Is there a way of doing this without having to edit every single animation?
Thanks! I think you’re right. I’ll look into it and see what the further possibilities are within this editor. I’ll do another reply when I’ve further investigated the matter.
VSE is good for rehashing timing of a rendered movie, but if you’re wanting to chop / change / slow down / pause etc and actual animation (you might want to change the angle during pause / slowdown like they do in Matrix), the NLA can do it. For a given “stop”, it pays to select all objects and keyframe them. Use B-key and/or SHIFT-key to block select specific points of animation within the NLA itself. Scale (S-key) scales selected frames relative to time, so you can speed up and slow down selected areas.
I did use the NLA before but I did not know it was able to do the things I asked above. Reading your story I get the impression it can deal with this without a problem. And like you said, using the NLA might indeed be a much more flexible way to edit the animations. Nice!
Thanks for the tip and explanation, much appreciated!
