How do I make a hexagon and a cylinder merge together smoothly?

I’m trying to make what I thought we be extremely simple pencil, but this part is proving a challenge for me. I’m a semi-new blender user (have had blender under a month.) How to I get these two shapes to look good together?

My first impulse would’ve been to make a “sharpener”, a cone shaped hole, and then subtract it from the hexagonal prism with the Boolean modifier…
