how do i make more then 1 colors

i can only make my objects one color i want to make a mesh red and the other green but i cant it all is one.
plz help me if you can ty

1st create 2 Materials say for example 1 RED and 2nd GREEN.
Select Object ->Edit Mode->Select the Area you want to in RED Color. Put Red Color and Assign. Now unselect all the vertix and Select only those vertics you want in Green Color.
Assign Green Color to these Vertics
