How do I overcome texture stretching?

Hi,i am fairly new to blender,anyway i have been trying to make a 3D environment for the game engine using a plane but when i UV unwrap a texture onto it,the texture is all stretched out.How to i tile textures so they remain sharp over a wide area.
I create my environments by sculpting a subdivided plane.
Also does anone know how to blend 2 textures together on a single surface?

try the node editor for blending textures (although probably wonโ€™t work for the GE, but for your first problem, try going into top view and press U and select project from view function, then move the verteces around in the UV/Image editor

you may need to go through some tutorials to work out how to do UV mapping. Iโ€™ve been doing blender for a while now and i still suck at them
