Alright so Ive been using blender and voodoo and after effects now all I need are shadows. How do I render just the shadows and put it into after effects? Any help would be appreciated
The best advice I can give is to do a forum search on “shadow pass”. this question has been asked a lot and lots of replies have been offered up.
Haha, most from me lately. reflections have been an issue for me too. Try compositing sub board.
I’m working on something now in which I put a monster into a scene. No matter what I try, silly Blender doesn’t seem to realize that I DO NOT want the set reconstruction to cast shadows onto itself, only to cast shadows onto the monster, AND have shadows from the monster cast shadows onto the set. In order to do this, I have to do two separate renders, one with, and one without the monster. Then I simply “difference” the “without” from the “with” so that the shading on the walls cancels itself out, leaving us with just the monster’s shadow. Then there’s a separate render where the monster is the shadow caster onto the walls, but not rendered. It’s quite a headache.
LazyCoder, can’t you use a light group to specify what object is linked to which light?
Nope, because then they wouldn’t cast.
EDIT: Sorry, what I mean is I needed it so the monster would cast a shadow on the set, but then the set ended up casting a shadow on itself… so irritating!
EDIT2: Did I mention I had some ambient occlusion going as well? That’s what messes it up… but oh well…
try going to materials and in the shadow tab check everything but don’t change the settings or u can play with it a little bit but checking everything usually works
bye
Edit: the material that u change is the material of the character that u want the shadow from. For example if u have a cube and a cylinder and u only want the shadow of the cube and u want the cylinder with the shadow u go to the material of the cube and check all of the shadow stuff
it should work
bye… again
