Is there a way to tell Blender to not include certain bones in the automatic weight paint? I have a rig that multiple objects are parented to, but I only want some object effected by certain bones. I thought that unchecking “deform” before weighting would accomplish this, but it does not. Any help?
Unchecking deform before parenting and automatic weight painting does prevent bones from being included in automatic weight paint. I don’t think it removes them from weighting, though, if they’d been weight painted once, then ‘fixed’. Post your blend so someone can take a look at what you are trying to do.
Are you saying that if I parent once without unchecking “deform”, then if I delete the parenting, uncheck deform, and then reparent, it will not recognize that I unchecked deform? If so, then that explains my problem. Sounds like a bug, though.
I ended up manually weight painting, so it’s solved, even though it was the hard way. I can’t upload the blend, sadly, as it’s stuff for work.
