New to 3d stuff. I have created a model of a pencil. how do i write the name of the brand on it? Just simple text. Nothing fancy for now.
Thanks

Check out some UV texturing or project stencil tutorials on youtube or vimeo. blendercookie.com has a good stuff on it.
Yeah, the best way would probably be to unwrap the pencil and add the text via texture in Gimp or Photoshop. However, a simple hack would be to just make a new Text object and position it just above whatever surface the text is supposed to be on. You could use the shrinkwrap modifier to put it on a curved surface. Much less time consuming if not entirely kosher.
Then again, it’s just a pencil, so unwrapping and texturing it would probably only take 10 minutes anyway.
hmm… the ‘text object’ work around sounds inviting but I think I will go for the UV mapping here… will learn something new and important if I’m not mistaken. Thanks for the help guys… will post the images later when I get a scene ready maybe in a month or two…
UV thing can get your head twisted around the first time.
For quick job you can always add some 3D text; Add > Text. Edit the text to read right, resize it, and place just over the surface of pencil side. It is probably a good idea to join them then. That way they will stay together.
Try this tut http://cgcookie.com/blender/2010/05/19/tip-placing-decals-with-empties/
Hope this helps
