How do you append parented objects?

I know I have read this before so I opologise but I can’t seem to find the post again… How do you Append an object AND it’s armature (Or anything else it might be parented to, for that matter)

Thanks a ton,

Trevor

Top menus File> Append . Browse to the blender file where you want to take the items from. Inside this file are directories. Object is the most useful. Select the items you want with Right mouse button (hit a for all) then hit load library. The two buttons at the bottom determine how it is transfered. Append copies without a link to the New file. Link copies a linked object which is not modifiable in the new file, but is modifiable from the original one. Objects transfer their materials etc.

I just tried it. You’ll probably want append.
Append - places the objects in your scene and lets you modify
Link - objects are not modifiable, you can’t even use the g key to move them around.

I couldn’t find a way to import an object and have its children auto import. If the object and children are on thier own layer I would suggest hitting ~ key to select all layers, then deselect the layer your object is on. Now select all and delete. When you save this file it will only contain the objects you want. Now when you import from inside the other file hit the a key to select all objects and hit load library (ensure append is selected). Your objects will keep thier parenting.

Anyone know an easier way?

You go File >> Append and LMB on the file the objects are in then navigate to the OBJECT library. RMB the Mesh and then the Armature (and as many other of the objects you want to append) to select them so they’re highlighted in blue. Click “Load Library” and they will all be appended.
