How do you handle rigs?

I’ve made a model for experimenting, and rigged it with Rigify. Everything went fine, I’ve started to play with it. But the next step is to add some props and things in the scene, but the outliner is littered with rigify widgets. What the best way to handle them? And the second question: how do I import the rigged figure in other file? It seems impossible for now.

Hi Gleb,

do you mean the bone shapes ? Are they mesh objects ? If they’re bothering you that’s just a matter of parenting them under an empty and collapsing the hierarchy, or switching the outliner view to “groups” or “visible layers” and either carefully grouping your objects (always handy anyway) or hiding the layer containing the bone shapes.

And how to copy model to other file the right way?

There are two choices when using a rig in another file, appending and linking. If you append it’s like copying the rig, object or whatever. If you link, Blender makes a copy of the rig in the original file and makes it usable in the new file. If changes are made in the original file, those changes are updated in the new file.

Linking is the prefered method for production work where more than one person will be working on assets. Linking also helps with file size because the linked assets are not present in the linked file.

Here are a few tutorials I’ve found that may help you with the concepts if appending and linking.

Good luck!
