the default sphere makes stupid tri at the top and bottom. I have seen spheres that are of different geometry made of quads… Do you know of where to get them ???
They model better, but forgot where they are

take a normal cube, subdivide a few times (in the modifier stack), select all verts, then do a “to sphere”.
theres another way, but it takes longer and i dont feel like posting images right now. but it gets basically the same result.
sweet !
im glad to have helped!
You could also use a UV sphere, delete every second edge of the tris then reconnect such that the tris have four edges, not three. (In effect, join pairs of side-by-side tris to make one tri). Easier if you hide the verts on the opposite end while you work.
They aren’t squres but they are quads.
I think you can also turn up the subsurf power on a normal cube then in object mode apply it.
thats what i said.

Roflmao, if that’s what you said I don’t believe it was clear.

In Edit mode you can sub-divide a cube a number of times and push a button under Mesh Tools specifically called ‘To Sphere’ and if you accept the default of 100% it will approximate a sphere made up of quads. I do not believe there is a ‘To Sphere’ button under the modifier stacks ;)[/quote]
Or you can make a cube, subdivide, and press smooth.
I hope it is very late in Sweden, cause that’s not helpful. Sleep well. Europe out…
there is a “to sphere” in the edit buttons. which is what i was referring to.

It was pretty late (11:07). But it do work. Don’t use set smooth, use smooth in the mesh tools.
