How do you 'Parent to Bone'?

I am trying to parent my object to a bone (s). When I push ctrl p I get two options armature and object. When I chose armature that is the route to get deformation, and I don’t want that, however when I choose object, I am lost as to whether or not I need to establish vertex groups still. Can someone please explain this to me.

Goto Pose mode on the Armature. RMB-select the Object (mesh) and Shft-RMB-select the Bone you want to Parent it to. Ctrl-P >> Bone.

If you have mulitple bones?

Would you just keep SHIFT RMB all of the bones until they are all selected? And then do the CTRL >> P? Also after you have done the Parent to Bone, how do you ensure that it will effect the right part of the mesh?

No, that’ll Parent it to only the last Bone selected, the Active bone. To have (let’s say) a three-bone chain affect one Mesh Object (let’s say a cylinder) you’ll need to assign Vertex Groups to the Cylinder.

Are you sure you have enough subdivisions along the length of the Mesh Object for it to bend properly? Individual Faces (correctly made) can’t deform and would rather rotate into space than distort edges, but if you cut a few loops at or near the ‘elbow’ between two bones everything should work ok.
