how do you render in layers to conduct seperate passes?

The topic says it all. How do you render for instance, a head mesh which has separate eyes from the head object and Particle hair.

Its mainly because of the particle hair (which slows rendering down alot) that I’m defaulting to trying to use render passes. But I haven’t a clue about how to attack it.

Advice?

Check the wiki manual for specifics, but actually it just means you put each object on its own layer, and then in the render layers tab create a reander layer specific to each of those layers, naming them to make it easier. Then in the compositor you can use the render layers to re order your render, to make them fit together you can use the z combine node to make sure they fit together correctly.

Wow, sorry I didn’t get back sooner. Thanks. I did figure it out.
