How do you show alpha in the viewports?

Hey everyone,

Sorry to ask such a newbie question, but how do I get transparency to show in the viewports? I have a plane with two textures on it (one for color, one for alpha with map to set appropriately). It’s fine in the render, but I can’t figure out how to get it to preview the alpha.

Thanks,
Simon O

You can only do it in the 2.4 testbuilds; there’s a ‘Transp’ button in F7.

Hey Fligh,

You’ve inadvertantly answered my biggest question in blender, how do I get non texture based materials to show their colors in potato mode (set drawtype in F7 to solid).

Unfortunately, the Transp button does not appear to be doing anything…

Do you think it could be because I am using a seperate alpha image?

Thanks,
Simon O

Solid Drawtype in F7 will show Material Color only

Shaded will show Material, Spec, Mirror and Ref (lights)

Solid Mode in the header menu will show Material Color, Ref and Spec.

Potato will show the same. But Potato mode was originally used for the GameEngine and is used to view UVMapped Image textures in the 3D Viewport.
