How do you turn a 3D text into a mesh so I can blow it up?

You press alt-c and select convert to mesh from meta/text/curve

In Object mode, select the text and click on Object -> Convert To -> Mesh from Curve/Meta/Surf/Text
And the text will be converted.
edit : oops too slow
