How does the shoulder/Armpit work? AKA beginning character modeling

Hey all, I’ve been trying to make the jump from almost exclusively doing hard surface modeling into more organic/character modeling. I’ve been starting on my first vaguely human base mesh on/off for the past couple days and am generally pretty happy with how it’s been turning out.

I just don’t understand how the dang shoulder/armpit work without loosing the shape of the inner arm or having a crease like a floppy noodle coming out of the body.

Here’s an image of my frontal view so far. Any advice/critique would be greatly appreciated!

Also I’ve been trying to find solid education and tutorials about character creation and haven’t found anything that has really clicked with me. I’m going to keep digging but if you have any recommendations I’d love to hear them!


PS It’s pretty simple and the head is a whole other can of worms, but that’s something to tackle later.
