How is the scratchy lighting effect made here

I did not create this. but I am intrigued by its quality. I understand how most of it could be done, but not the scratchy edges. anyone have any comments.

My guess is that it was made post-pro with something like
After Effects.

Hmmm, I think you could map some textures to planes that follow the edges of the cubes. I think that there is a reason that the main charater is constructed from cubes for this effect. Later when the objects shatter the streaky lines are absent.

Or you could render the animation in passes, first a beauty pass with solid lighting on the boxes, then the wire pass for outline of the boxes that are then distorted over time and added to the beaty pass in the compositor.

I dunno.
