How many samples for texture baking?

I read somewhere that the resolution of the baked texture sets its quality, so how many samples do I need to use then? If I for example normally use 7 (49) samples, do I need 4 (16) when baking textures? Or what’s the general rule for this? Thanks in advance!

There is no rule for this. You just have to test it and see when it looks good enough. The only “rule” I could give you is that typically, color maps are the easiest to bake. The samples will only affect the anti aliasing in that case. Normal maps don’t tend to require alot of samples either. AO and indirect lighting takes the most samples to bake.
