How on earth do i model a character with a mouth that can be easily animated? lyp syncing etc

I can create a character but… creating a mouth that opens and talks is a whole other story. Can anyone offer any tips/advice?

For a quick and simple rig and shape keys you might want to check this series of videos out. It goes through the whole process. It is a simple character but can easily be converted into a more complex character just as easily.
