I’m starting to learn Blender compositor and VSE and I want to know how powerful it is.
Those are dedicated video editors so have more features specifically for video editing.
What do you mean by ‘more powerful’ ?
What do you want to do ?
What limitations have you found ?
If you just want to stick some video clips together (blender does not open or save to all the formats available to dedicated applications) or something more complicated. Using dedicated applications will make life easier for the latter.
What I mean is how powerful would you compare blender to those video editors versions and current version.
What I mean how powerful would you compare blender to those video editors versions and current version.
What do you mean by powerful ? It all depends on what you want to do.
If you want to join 2 clips together then they are pretty equal. If you want to make a feature film then they will be far apart.
If you want a video editor then just use a dedicated video editing application.
For example if you want to actually see the video clips in the timeline, no problems except if you use blender. Managing a library of video clips ? Good luck using blender. Transition effects, you’ll have to make your own, editing audio in blender, only if you want to adjust the volume.
Uuuuh Youtube videos?i want to know if I can make videos like MatPat’s with Blender.Edit:Or Gnoggin.
You most certainly can. You will probably spend more time learning and doing it though.
Seek and you shall find… youtube is your slave
Blender Video Editing (2.7X) [Current Series] - playlist
To me, this sort of ‘software challenge’ is mixing apples and oranges … and challenging one such fruit to somehow be another.
Ain’t never gonna happen . . . nor should we expect it to.
Every software product has a single “primary focus.” A single group of users who comprise “its primary customers.” A single set of objectives that are most important to them. Blender, I think, is no exception.
Blender is a “soup-to-nuts 3D graphics tool” that incorporates (to some degree or another) “the entire video production process.” In other words, you can complete a project, start to finish, entirely in Blender. All of the necessary pieces are there. However, if you are using Blender for “video editing,” it is most likely that you are doing so “because you are also using it for this product’s primary purpose, which is: ‘3D.’”
If you were editing a movie or a television show, I’d say that the odds are very slim that you’d be using Blender right now to do that.
“Jack of all trades, yet master of none?” No. That will lead you nowhere … fast.
Every [software… or not…] product, no matter how many things it “can do” in the process of doing “what it does best,” must always focus upon its “core competencies.”
Leaving you to choose … not “which one magically all-encompassing tool,” but rather which “set of tools” … suits your project best. (And if that turns out to be, for you, “just one product == Blender,” goody for you!)
“How ‘powerful’ is <<blah blah>> compared to <<blah blah>> or <<blah blah>>?” That’s really missing the point. It depends. It depends on you.
True. But to be specific. The kinds of effects they are doing in those videos are also not only done in a video editor. They are probably using After Effects as welly or primarily. You can do it all n Vegas, absolutely. I do stuff like that all the time. But it is easier and better to do in AE.
But another thing Blender has is the ability to animate geometry and render/edit that in as well. And that is a powerful combination. And in effect what they are trying to accomplish with the C4D lite bridge in AE.
But my advice would be to simply ask them what they use. Message them on youtube or facebook.
premiere is a lot better, feature and workflow wise. however you can do a lot of things in blender as well, it’s just more tedious. and then there are some downsides of premiere like price or inability to open mkv files.
Anyone else using DaVinci Resolve?
Too much personal information.
Way too expensive (Linux version is around 30k Dollar)
