So I have gotten to the point where I can model fairly detailed game assets and I want to start selling models. I am wanting to do a modular sci-fi hallway set with an unclean/rundown feel. I don’t have any money to spend on getting textures from textures.com or to buy substance designer so I want to know how I can create all of my materials in Blender. I do know how to bake in Blender I am just wondering where to start on creating procedural, realistic, materials.
The generators in Cycles cannot be made to repeat, sadly. Which is a must if you want the dirt of modules ABC to have same continuity as ACB or BAC.
Some blending towards the edges can be used in some cases, but others (like voronoi) is impossible to blend this way unless you’re already mixing so many together it hides the density variation.
I love using procedurals, but I can’t think of a way to use them in a modular fashion without a repeat option in the generators.
I recommend you these two videos and these two channels:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G9ig0pkISM – He creates lots of things and puts on his website for free. If you know how to bake these addons he made could really help you.
And CGvirus: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnAARr1S7jUgZLMHIHJAMCBdxEhRW5iZz
A great playlist where he teachs how to create pbr materials and export, has included a procedural material, all using the clement pbr viewport. I used it and is really handy.
Thank you very much, sorry for the late response! I will take a look at these I appreciate it!
Yeah I am thinking I should probably kill my steak of not using paid software and just buy substance designer it would save me a lot of time. Thank you for your response though!
