How to add a picture to a model

hi,
i have make a plane model. and i would like to add a picture to it’s wing or body. anyone can advise?Thanks

Unwrap your model. and in gimp/ps use layers to add up pictures on wings and body. Check out blendercookie.com for unwrap tutorials.

alternatly, duplicate the faces where you want the ‘decal’ to be (personally I advise pulling them off the surface once you have done so to avoid z depth fighting) and assign a new material to them that uses the picture as an alpha transparent texture
