Please post support questions to the apporpriate support forum rather than to the first one you see !
Moved thread from ‘Discussion / Blender & CG Discussion’ to ‘Support Animation & Rigging’ forum
You can add a new vertex group to the mesh by going to the Vertex panel and clicking the “+” button - then double click the new group and change its name to the name of the appropriate bone. Then add the applicable vertices to this group by selecting them in Edit mode and clicking the “assign” button with the new group selected, as below:
Cheers, Clock.
Make sure your mesh is parented to the armature, and has an armature modifier. Make sure the bone’s properties have deform turned on (by default it is), and name the vertex group the same as the bone.
Thanks for adding that bit Skip, I had, perhaps wrongly, assumed the OP had already done the parenting and just added a new bone to the rig. I should remember the lessons from my the past: the word assume splits into “ass” “u” and “me”, so to assume can make an ass out of you and me…
Cheers, Clock.
Thanks Clock. I struggle with answers. I started that answer before you replied, and did about five minutes of “wait, what if?” just to get out those two sentences. Without a .blend file to look at, it is always so difficult to figure out just where someone is at with their model.
@philiplilkaer the main thing is, the bone and the vertex group are named the same. If you rename the bone, it will automatically rename it’s matching vertex group. To disable or remove the armature control, just rename the vertex group, or shut off “deform” in the bone’s properties…
can you send a video on how to do it
At around 5 minutes in the author starts creating vertex groups. You can use the same process. All you need to do is make sure the vertex group name is exactly the same as the bone name. Then the bone, through the armature modifier, will bind the vertices you assigned to that vertex group.
Pretty much what the guys described above.
