Hi I’m new to blender and am trying to learn how to model, and I have seen tutorials on youtube where the user put pictures of the body or face in the background to use as reference for the model. But that was in the old blender, how do you do it in blender 2.55 beta?
Welcome to BA.
Using background images as reference was taken to the next level with 2.5 as you can link different background images to set views.
Watch the video, at 19:30 the part about background images 2.4 vs 2.5 starts.
I suggest to watch his other videos as well, you´ll have a much easier time to migrate the many 2.4 tuts out there to 2.5 =)
The short version without explaination:
press N to bring up the properties panel if not there.
navigate to “Background Images”
read the menu points, understand them and use them, pretty selfexplainatory =)
Thank you so much! One problem though, the pictures don’t seem to be loading. I got a random smaller picture to load(it took a sec though, but after that there were no problems switching views or anything.) So does that mean blender needs smaller images sizes to work? or a preferred file type? I’m using jpeg files for my reference should use something different?
It might be due to your nationality =)
Blender seems to have troubles, especially under linux with non-utf8 chars in and spaces in filenames.
öäüêéáделировани and stuff like that in filenames usually makes images or blendfiles simply not load.
And I am not certain but I think to remember that image sizes beyond 4000x4000 are not supported, don´t know though if it was a 2.49 issue only or if I am mixing it up with another tool =)
