How to apply a rig

I’m a noob and have been using blender for a bit. I took the only highshool courses in animation and games development and they barely taught much so I had to figure things out on my own.

To my issue, I’ve been trying to apply a rig of which I’ve animated, but whenever I apply the rig modifier and then play the animation, the mesh no longer moves but blender says I still have the key frames. I’ve kept the right in the modifiers tab as that seems to solve the problem but not really as technically the modifier doesn’t exist.

This all for a mod I’ve been volunteering with and have been trying to improve my skills but it sucks as I can’t get passed this.

Anything would be greatly appreciated and if you could point to a tutorial series that would be even better!

Thanks in advance.

You should NEVER apply an armature mod if you want it to actively deform the mesh. Applying an armature mod permanently deforms the mesh the way the armature was posed at the time you applied it, thus destroying all your key framed poses. You would only ever apply an armature if you wanted to use it to pose a character and you never wanted to move it again. In most cases, you would not apply any modifiers, there are exceptions of course, which is why you have the apply button…

Cheers, Clock.

PS I hope you have a saved version of your file before you applied the armature mod because there is no “unapply” button…
