How to bake animation shadows

I have a strange project where I want to animate the shadow of a physical object. The idea is to make a digital version of the object and animate it in blender and then render the shadow of the object on plane to a video. Then play that video on a tablet and place the physical object on top. I watched a video about baking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sB09T--_ZvU

Which will get me the results I need for one frame. Is there a way bake an entire animation?

I’m not exactly sure why you would need to bake that?
Couldn’t you just make the object invisible to the camera (but still cast a shadow, of course), place the camera accordingly (perpendicular to the ground plane) and render that out as an animation?

Saves you quite a bit of hassle with baking, I would assume…
