How to color particles on mesh ?

Hello everyone.

I have problem with my project. I have made a plane with particles on it (particles are from object - ordinary UV sphere), and I want to color them in particular way.

What I know: I know, that I can color my UV sphere and every particle will be one color (lets say RED).

What I want to know: I want to make sort of gradient effect on plane with my particles, which should looks like in center of plane are 100% RED particles and on edges are 10% RED particles.

Is anything like this possible ?

You can give the particle object a blend texture mapped to the cordinates of the particle emitter object
