How to Create an ICON file, can gimp?

Well i was going to install gimp a while back but i didnt really need it as i had a copy of Photoshop 7.0 from a friend, which is a lovely program.

However, i had to format recently and am without any real image editing software. If i remember right Photoshop could, but can Gimp save as Icon (.ico) files? I need to convert a Bitmap to Ico… (made in fireworks, but after using Photoshop so long fireworks is weird, and designed for different uses)

So ya, Icon files in Fireworks would be perfect, but more likely you will know if gimp can do it… so i’ll take either… i just need to make an icon :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks!

Gimp doesn’t directly. You can massage bmps into icons but you have to know how to hack them right…

[edit 2]See my next post…[/edit]

gimp 2.2:

File -> Save As… -> Select File Type -> Microsoft Windows Icon ico

Ah, I’m living in the dark ages with Gimp version 1.something.

I still like [edit]png2ico[/edit] because an icon is most useful when it supplies multiple bitmaps instead of having the OS scale down (or worse, scale up) the one image you’ve supplied to fit the context.

well i’ll just download pic2ico, but my question is what did you mean by “[edit]site turned to spam[/edit]” lol.

Are you saying just the site sux, or the program is compramised? or what? lol. Just curious :stuck_out_tongue:

ACK! I gave you a bad program. The thing I was thinking of was
png2ico.

pic2ico is crap. Delete it.

I knew something was wrong when the web link (that I edited out) just led to a circular search portal. Sorry.
:expressionless:

Png2Ico rocks!
