Hi! I’ve been really inspired by the shimmering wall in the Annihilation movie, and wanted to recreate it in Blender. Not sure how to start - guessing it’s a procedural wave with lighting/material tricks? Hoping for the wall to look dynamic. Would appreciate any tips/ideas. Thank you!

The color changing is called iridescence for some oily or soapy also thin film effect.

You might have a look here:

> For a while now, I’ve needed an accurate and easy to use thin film interference node. I noticed not many exist for blender, and the few that do are incredibly complex or inaccurate. So, using a paper I found from 2013: [https://www.gamedev.net/tutorials/\_/technical/graphics-programming-and-theory/thin-film-interference-for-computer-graphics-r2962/](https://www.gamedev.net/tutorials/_/technical/graphics-programming-and-theory/thin-film-interference-for-computer-graphics-r2962/) I was able to implement it in shader nodes. Here’s a video of me previewing it in the viewport: [YouTube - Experimenting with Thin Film Interference](https://youtu.be/1WxBtohdh5g) …

or with the newer blender versions:

That’s a roundcube with verts randomly moved a bit (to give it some distortion) and a Solidify modifier. Thin Film Thickness 0.0 nm in the left image, 800.0 nm in the right image. Please note that I don’t really know what I’m doing o…

…but of course there are other setup, tutorials, paided ones out there 😉
