So I’m making an explosion scene, and I want the force to be more than just the explosion. Grass blowing back, sand flying, water becoming wild, something like that, without killing my laptop(1660 ti with Max Q and 4800HS). What type of environment would be best for this scenario?
Your best bet would be something designed for this- Houdini, mostly, with some LiquidGen mixed in, and probably Unreal for putting it all together. Blender can’t do this
The Houdini to Blender workflow isn’t exactly free, though. I considered that. And I don’t need all of the mentioned stuff, just the best fit for Blender or a different option(Oceans/Snow/Ground cracking)
If you want to do a multiphysics simulation in one go, you have to use another tool.
But the scene as described is doable in Blender.
It is impossible to bake it, in one go.
But you can treat each effect, one by one. Their synchronization is still possible.
It only depends on placing keyframes, at the right time.
Markers, in animation editors, are there, to help you to do it.
You can trigger several animations with same driver.
You can use same input, for different Geometry Nodes node trees.
Baking several caches in a sequence of several tasks, storing them as different files, rendering them separately, don’t change the fact that, after compositing and video editing ; it may appear as a coherent animation.
So which environment would be best for this requirement? Particle deserts, Hair sim grass, fluid water, or something else? And how would I make that interact with the explosion
You have to do a lot of re-search and strip down every part to the according system… in VFX this is down by dozen of people… everyone an expert on their area…
So no guarantee to blow up some machine while doing this ![]()
…so i guess: start small ?
Edit:
Another resource how “they” make in in movies… step by step for every single part ( properly also some bird animations involved
)

To create a blast, you may use only one force field.
A Force Field type object may work with traditional Blender simulations.
You can easily find tutorials to create force fields for Geometry Nodes effects.
Then, the way the blast is propagated depends on the environment you choose.
You don’t create the same effect according to the environment.
Most the time, people are choosing the environment according to story, they want to tell.
You are free to pick the environment according to effect, you want to achieve.
But in this case, you have to show examples, if you want an answer from us.
But normally, the appropriate environment is in the example.
I’d do it movie style, but I’d need a couple paid resources. But thank you so much for the help and advice!!
