I find OpenGL lighting very distracting when weight painting. It distorts the colors and I don’t see weight colors well.
I want the model to look something like this (totally shadeless):

Enabling all 3 lights and setting them to maximum intensity doesn’t completely eliminate this problem.
Thanks for your time and replies. 
go to f5 in 2.49 and make it shadless
that will revome all light sources

Do you have your 3D Window View Port shading set to Solid? Light shouldn’t be working in Weigh Paint Mode.

The object didn’t have a material, so I created a material and set it to shadeless. Still got shading. 
Changing viewport shading mode doesn’t make the mesh shadeless.
