It used to be that when you bevelled a vertex and then changed the number of Segments you’d end up with an ngon, but now there’s mitering that creates superfluous vertices that I have no need of, anyone knows how to completely get rid of this behaviour? It sort of popped up with some version of blender and it’s been the bane of my existence ever since… It’s completely unnecessary for game models…
In this example I don’t want the additional three vertices, they serve no function and it takes time to remove them every time I bevel something… It’s p annoying, especially when performing bevel on more vertices.
May you please clearify your question: you don’t want those 4 additional vertices to be appeared? Becasue, you’ve said “three vertices”, but from what I see in the screen, there’s four of them.
There’s three superflous vertices created in the middle. It used to be, before mitering that this would result in an n-gon (red line in the picture) and with clamp overlap on I could just slide the single corner vertex that results from the bevel into a corner and merge by distance. Now I have three additional vertices to dissolve.
I know how to fix this and remove them after bevelling obviously, but they used to not be created and I’d like to be able to go back to that behaviour during a bevel operation.
Attaching a file, try and ctrl+shift+B to bevel the vertices only and increase segments by 1. But I feel like I’m going mad about this, I’ve checked 2.8 and 2.79 and both add these vertices but me and my art team distinctly remember that the behaviour changed at some point and started adding vertices when bevelling a vertex and increasing segments.
Yeah, the weird thing is how so many people, including myself remember that when you used to bevel a vertex you’d get basically a triangle fan configuration that’s been dissolved into an n-gon without the internal subdivisions and side vertices - just more vertices where the bevelled one is. But now that I went through a few versions all the way to 2.79 it behaves like it does now.
So bizarre lol. So I guess it’s going to be a feature request on right click select when I have the time :P.
Well, at the same time no one’s forbids you from sending an idea/proposal to Blender’s team to fix that in the future relases. Not sure if they would, but, you can give it a try whatever. At least you won’t lose anything
