How to fix rigging distortion

I’ve only been doing Blender for about 1.5 weeks, with no prior 3d experience, so I’m not sure what to look up to fix the issue or determine what it is. I made this mesh based on reference images and my own character outline.

Issue:
When I begin rigging the character and go to pose some parts of the head seem to be connected to the bones of the arm, and when I rotate the head, the flat portions of the eye seem to be staying still and not moving with the head even though it’s one mesh. The middle halo/ring seems to be connected to the legs.

  • I applied a scale to the rig prior to parenting, and I’ve tried everything I could in weight painting.
I’ve only been learning this software for a week and a half so I’m sure it’s something easy, but since I have no idea what I’m doing, I’m not even sure where to start or what to look up. Thanks!

You can assign it to the head bone using weight paint.
If there is a problem even if you set it in the same way as above, see if there are any overlapping parts assigned to other bones.

Alternatively, the video below is how to edit a vertex group.

If the above problem is difficult to solve by yourself, and you can share the file, please attach the .blend file. Quick help is available.
※ Attached capacity is 5mb. If you exceed the capacity, please save it outside and leave a link.

Hello and welcome aboard!

Probably the result of auto-weighting, IMO, it’s not very good. To trouble shoot - find the armature modifier for the mesh and enable it to work in edit mode (upside down triangle icon). No pose the character so you can see the bad deformation. Enter edit mode for the mesh and select 1 vert that is behaving badly. No in the transforms panel (n-key) you should see a listing of what vertex groups the vert belongs to. More than likely you’ll want to use weight painting to re-weight the mesh verts to the head bone. Use ‘auto-normalize’ option when doing so.

If parts of the mesh are over lapping, like face mesh with glasses on top of the face mesh, auto weighting will fail. Fix with weight painting.
