How to get Blender Shadows to Cover Large Area?

Hello, as blender shadows are confined to the cone of the spotlight how are we to get dynamic shadows on larger areas? Is there an upgrade in the future?

You can always make the cone larger and increase the buffer size. If you keep the spot high enough, the shadows will still be roughly parallel.

yeah but what I find is that if I do that then after about 1 minute of running fine the GE will slow down to a crawl, as if it’s running out of memory. And then if I update materials in some way such as by changing the spec value on the terrain then it will speed up again for about a minute and then slow down again.
