how to get rid of group imported in a scene?

I´ve got this animated character which is a group.

I create a new scene, and add the group, and the animation works perfectly.
However, it is a long scene, and I will only be needing him for the first 3 seconds of the scene. So I want this group to be removed from the scene, because it slows it down . and I have new groups to important instead of him to “replace” him.

Do you know how to fix this? or do you know a relevant tutorial?

thanks in advance

You could select the group and move it to another layer.

You could create another scene in which the group is deleted.

In 2.5 you can use the outliner to enable/disable rendering/viewing of entire groups.

Thank for your answer, but I guess I cant change one group from one layer to another in the same scene! I mean have a group in one layer say the first 200 frames and in another layer from frame 201-400…

Creating another scene each time I change groups would mean too many scenes, I am afraid, it would be a bit ackward.

Perhaps Im ready now for version 2.5 ;0

Just have one layer that you don’t render and move all objects you don’t want rendered on that layer. All you need to do is keyframe objects moving in and out of that layer to control when they are rendered and when they are not.
Layer 1 is rendered
Layer 2 is not rendered
Frame 1 - object 1 on layer 1, object 2 on layer 2
Frame 201 - object 1 move to layer 1, object 2 move to layer 1
etc etc
In blender 2.5 you can simply keyframe an objects visibility/renderability from the outliner.

“keyframe objects” - howto???
If I understand you right, there is something I have missed… how the heck do I move one object/group from one layer to another in the same scene, so that it is on layer 1 during frames 1-200 and on layer 2 from frame 201-400???

Right, now I am in 2.5, and using the toggle View is not that much of a revolution, since it affects the entire layer in the scene. I would like to toggle in and out, so that I can render an entire scene and find different groups at different times…
Could someone please suggest alternative ways of achieving the following task:
I want to show a Robot doing various movements. I will be using these movements in many scenes.

My own idea was “convert” the movements into groups, and add these groups into the relevant scene. I would place group1 in frames 1-200(robot moves left hand), and group2 in frames 200-400(robot nodds head). etc. The groups would be place in the exact same location, so no one would notice that they were acutally different groups.
But since my robot is very heavy in terms of polygons, I need to “skip” the groups that are not shown, and honestly I must say that it is a surprise that I cannot do this in blender, or hide it someway. Toggling visibility in 2.5 removes the groups from the entire layer. The only way to get rid of a group not used, would be to add a keyframe and move its location away from the camera, but then I would end up by the end of the scene with 10 groups hiding in the “backstage” and that would slow down the computer.
Any solutions???How do other people do?/solve this problem?
