hi, i want to give this sword different texture material obviously metal for the blade and wood for the handle, i followed a tutorial on how to make metal texture, but i didn’t understand how to seprate tuxtures, i tried things like making different imgae texture for different part of the mesh, and assigned them to the part i wanted in shader editor for different part with different slots, but that didn’t work,
For every single face you can use a different material… just add as much material slots as you want and assign them to any selected faces.
If you mean the separation between metal and non-metal via the metalness value then you have to make a controlling mask texture and use the same UVs for both.
You may have to elaborate this to get a more suited answer (maybe telling which tutorial or/and show you setup).
let me explain, i followed ryankingart tutorial on how to make metal texture, and i applied it to my sword, but now even when i make different slots for different parts of the mesh with different image texture, the first image i made is getting change while im manipulate, for example i made a texture image for the whole object/mesh, then i applied it to the mesh, then i made a different image texture for the handle part wich is wood, in shader editor i went to edit mode, i select handel part i assign the new image texture to it and i try to give new material to it but the old one is getting change while im doing it on the new one
how can i do that
It doesn’t make sense to make the sword and the handle together.
It’s a configuration that can be made separately.
If you made it like this for a purpose, you have to separate the two materials.
One of the methods is to make a mask for material separation.
The video below explains how to do this.
It depends on what workflow you want to use (and by mentioning the tutorial i meant more a link and maube also a location (available via the YT share option → location…) … because i will not search for this in the Ryan King Tuts… )
Also it seems you didn’t follow correctly the tuorial ?? Or have to watch some more/other two ???
Because you are unsure about the workflow. Knowledge doesn’t come as quick as some thing suggest to…
i think the easiest way is to just seprate the mesh and parent them not join them, i made every part sepertly but i join them because I didn’t its like this, but i should try this mask thing and after that maybe i have my solution or just seprate them
maybe you right im not sure if i completely understand the tutorial, i should watch it again
