I just want to rotate the object to face a different direction, but rotate in blender is on clock type wheel. I need to know this for 2.7 and 2.8. Thank you.
try pressing r then (without clicking anything) x , y or z to control the rotation axis. Double tapping axis keys(x,y,z) will give you new ways.
