How to import an FBX rig from animset into blender autorig

I saw an animset FBX file package I’d like to purchase, so that I can retarget them into autorig. To ensure some compatibility I downloaded the UE4 package install (HUGE file)
In case the FBX downloads needed a place to import to. As I’m not certain “purchased downloads” would go to the desktop. Just a hunch.

As well, I downloaded blender 2.82 in order to use the blender add-on bonebreaker to help with conversions and retargeting.

Yet, I’m unable to discover “how” to open up UE4. As hitting the launch button only brings me to the marketplace window.

And secondly, I’m still no able to discover WHAT will happen to the animset FBX animation files if I purchase them.

I posted tot he developer about this -

I discovered by trial:

  • FIRST - You really need the updated FBX coverter from blender market - It recognizes all fbx formats from 2013-2020. Invaluable.
  • SECOND - you gotta have Unreal engine installed for the conversion process.
  • animset file package is “imported” into an unreal engine project.
  • then each animset (UASSET) clips can can viewed in the project list.
  • animation clips can then be exported (one at a time) to a folder on your desktop of choice.
  • its time consuming but worth it.

But I still had challenges getting the rig to move. His fix though was simple.
In autorig there are import settings in the remapping section. And in the import pulldown menu there are setting for maximo, unity and, “unreal”

  • once that was done the rig walked and talked
