How to import animated models from other applications?

How to import animated models from other applications?

What type of file shall I use?

And what’s the difference between common animation and skeletal animation?

I don’t think Blender can do this. It is one of the limitations of using Blender. There is no cross platform animation support.

Um…:o…

If it is only for rendering, you can import a mdd vertex cache though.

Depends on what you’re doing. Doom 3’s md5mesh/anim supports the model & the skeleton animation (but every vertex must be attached to a bone). LWO has a model & motion export. I found just the other day you can use the Vertex Keyframe Animation (MDD) to export a kf for all vertex, including baked animations. No skeleton.

But it depends what the other app can import. Example: Blender can export .lwo/mot but maya (for example, don’t really know) can’t import so it’s useless. But it could also go the other way around.

Nearly every “popular” 3d app has a md5 import/export dll/script/etc, so that may be the best one to do. Those id modders love to make their own tools.

Thanks, I’ll make a try with export md5 from Max.
But I want to konw how to import md5 into Blender? It seems just can import md2 rather than md5.

Back to square one.

I don’t think Blender can do this.

Thank you very much!
