Is this possible? I know when extruding edges, you can hit x, y, or z to lock to those axises, but what about between them? I am trying to make something a perfect 45 degree angle and just clicking and dragging completely destroys the idea as I have tried that. Rotating it, completely messes it up. Hitting x and y together don’t seem to help either. I got it to work once, but I can’t remember what I did.
You can hit shift-z (or x or y) to exclude the z axis and move only on x and y (or whatever other combination).
You can also press the axis letter twice in a row to lock to the local axis. By default the local axes of an object are the same as the global axes, but when you rotate your object in object mode the local axes move with the object. So if you rotate your model 45 degrees around the Z axis in object mode, your X and Y local axes will be at a 45 degree angle to the global axes, so then you can rotate your model back to where it should be in edit mode and take advantage of the local axes to easily move things along this 45 degree angle. When you finish doing this you might want to reset the objects rotation using Ctrl+A in object mode, and apply the rotation.
Sorry if my explanation is a bit poor, but you can change the setting in this picture to “Local” to easily see where the local axes of an object are pointing.
